Ouch!
I discovered last night that my son has an absessed tooth. He’s known it for quite some time and is making excuses not to get it fixed. He took good care of his teeth when he lived with me, so this has me a bit puzzled. His employer is changing insurance carriers next month and that’s his current excuse for not going to the dentist now. He’s waiting for the “better” coverage to kick in. Yeah, right. Mom’s not buying it! I’ve had absesses dealt with before. I know the dread that comes with facing the prospect of a root canal, but, honestly, the root canal itself doesn’t hurt. With today’s sedation dentistry, you don’t feel a thing after the sedative is administered. The pain comes upfront while the absess is festering. Well, he’s not buying that, but still insists that it’s just the insurance situation that’s holding him back. Bribes worked when he was a kid. He’s been having a lot of fun with my camera since he’s been here, even though he takes lousy pictures. Maybe I should offer to give him lessons from brooks photography school to spur him into action?
We’re headed for the beach today, I think (it’s already noon and we’re both still in jammies, so maybe not, lol!) I’ll be taking pictures if/when we go, but that always raises a problem. I can’t just leave my camera on a towel when I go in the water because it would disappear pretty quickly. That means we’ll either have to take turns swimming or make extra trips to and from the car to lock the camera up. I hate it that such concerns cause so many hassles. Still, If I’m going to get him excited about photography so he’ll get the blasted tooth fixed I suppose it’s worth it.

I would say that my absessed tooth was one of the most painful experiences of my entire life. Your son is incredibly unlucky. Hopefully your offer of photography lessons pays off!

Remind him you only get one set of choppers. It took a while, but I finally realized it after having a couple pulled to save the money. Good luck. Dentistry can be almost painless now except for the co-pays and uninsured portions.

I hope you were able to wrok a bribe with your son! It seems silly not to go - the abscess is way more painful than a root canal.

We’ll see, Steve. He’s being pretty stubborn about it right now & he’s a grown man who gets to make his own decisions, even when they’re wrong & he should do what momma says.

Yeah, Ron, you and I know these things because we’re older & wiser. He’s still young enough to think he knows everything.

Hasn’t worked yet, Kate, but I haven’t given up yet either.

if all else fails you could always drag him kicking and screaming. xD that’s what my husband did about my wisdom teeth.

Jenny, did you see the picture of me and my son having our Mother’s Day lunch? There’s no dragging him, I can assure you!

Ew and abscess! If it’s a bad one he could actually get quite sick from it. Keep an eye on him if he hasn’t already gone in to have it taken care of.

He’s promising he’ll see the dentist when he gets home, Tricia. I really hope he follows up.
