Where to eat on Oahu

I’ve been tagged by Nellie to tell you about my five favorite places to eat.

The complete rules:

1. Link to the name of the person who tagged you.

2. Include the state and country you’re in.

3. List your top 5 favorite places to eat at your location (locally).

4. Tag 5 other people (preferably from other countries/states) and let them know they’ve been tagged.

I’m on the island of Oahu (in Hawaii, US,) which is kind of like one spread out city. There are different city names (I live in Maili, but my mailing address is Waianae,) but everything on the island is technically the City and County of Honolulu, so I’m using the whole island. There are not too many places to eat out here on the coast, so I need the whole island if I’m going to do this.

My five favorite paces to eat, in no particular order:

1. Ryan’s Grill - They have an amazing chocolate ganache cake. It’s so scrumptious that it’s embarrassing to eat it in public. There’s a story that goes with that, but I won’t tell it.

Zip pac1

2.Zippy’s - I wrote about them a few days ago. I’m not so much into typical fast food, but if I want something local to bring home, it’s Zippy’s I think of if I’m not out here on the coast. I really like their Zip Pac - chicken, Spam, teri beef and fish served with rice dressed up with furikake.

3. Barbecue Kai - Scuzzy-looking little drive-in here on the coast. Love their Chicken Katsu! So ono (good!) it broke da mout!

Kua Aina Burgers

4. Kua Aina - They have a shiny, plastic restaurant in town now, but I love the one a few blocks fromt he beach in Haleiwa, in an old building with sand on the floor. Burgers to die for!

5. Mom’s - Southern comfort food. My book group has met there quite a few times & I go by from time to time to pick up fried catfish with black-eyed peas, yams and cornbread. Yum!

I don’t have anyone to tag yet. I hate putting people on the spot by tagging them without warning & don’t have time right now to do the research. If you’d like to volunteer, pleae do!

  1. Yummy the fried catfish sounds good. We actually cooked up some catfish on the grill last week. Mmmm.

I don’t think I’ve heard of chocolate ganache cake before, but I love just about anything chocolate so it sounds good. :)
