Sad spider
I introduced you to my houseguest six days ago and provided some updated information the following day. Yesterday I noticed that her web was looking a little ragged, and today it’s really a mess. We’ve had a little wind, but she’s in a relatively protected position, and the winds were not terribly fierce, so I’m not sure that’s the explanation. I have a theory. It’s based on next to nothing, but it’s where my brain has gone with this. She hasn’t produced an egg sac. I think it’s likely that she hasn’t got a mate. No egg sac to tend, no forthcoming offspring = no need for an orderly web, so she’s allowed it to deteriorate.
