Sad spider

Spider web mess

I introduced you to my houseguest six days ago and provided some updated information the following day. Yesterday I noticed that her web was looking a little ragged, and today it’s really a mess. We’ve had a little wind, but she’s in a relatively protected position, and the winds were not terribly fierce, so I’m not sure that’s the explanation. I have a theory. It’s based on next to nothing, but it’s where my brain has gone with this. She hasn’t produced an egg sac. I think it’s likely that she hasn’t got a mate. No egg sac to tend, no forthcoming offspring = no need for an orderly web, so she’s allowed it to deteriorate. Haven’t a clue what’s really going on, but I like the theory. It’s tidy.

  1. Wow, how typical is that?? No men or kids around so we let the housework slide :)

  2. ‘Tis true that my house has gotten much more cluttered and downright messy since my son moved out and there’s no one around but me, lol! :D

  3. This is me screaming and running from the room. ACK SPIDERS!!!

  4. […] been watching our lady spider rebuilding her nest. You’ll recall that it had become something of a mess when I last reported on her activities. She rebuilt one of the stabilimenta shortly after that. […]
