Meet Martin!

I’ve been doing Self Portrait Sunday for a couple of months. That’s where I first met Martin, and his photos have been impressing me ever since. On Sundays I worry about whether I’m wearing lipstick. Martin seeks out a setting with an intriguing story and injects himself into it.

Martin lives on the island of Malta, just below the boot-tip of Italy. He recently did a wonderful photo-essay about Victoria / Rabat. It’s a uniquely fascinating place and, like me, Martin enjoys sharing stories that acquaint his readers with his home. What I couldn’t find anywhere on his blog was an explanation of how a Canadian ex-pat managed to find himself in such an exotic and historic locale. The only harsh critique I have of Total Dismay is that he needs an “about me” to fill in a few blanks like that. He recently stated that he’s never put his blog out there for review “because people inevitably concentrate on layout and aesthetics rather than content.” I’m with him all the way on that. I’m much more insterested in what a person has to say than the surroundings in which they say it. He’s chosen a very simple theme for his blog and concentrated his efforts on giving his readers a quality read each time they visit. I think he’s succeeded.

Something Martin is very good at is finding interesting, humorous and informative videos and links. His tastes are eclectic, so you’ll find a good mix of cerebral content and slap-your-sides funny stuff along with the informative and instructional. I probably could have lived my entire life without knowing that he may very well possess the world’s longest nipple hair, but my life is richer for the knowing, so I had to share that with you, too.

Go visit my friend Martin. You’ll laugh! You’ll cry! You’ll add him to your blogroll!
