Self Portrait Sunday for June 3, 2007

    I'd know that chin anywhere!

Today you get a three-fer. I decided that I would try to use the timer on my camera so that I could do my self-portraits from a little further away than my arms will stretch. This was probably not the most sound decision I’ve made today. I compounded the error on my first try by clicking on zoom, thus moving my face from the spot I had lined up.

Suddenly I'm taller than I remembered.

Attempt number two was a little more successful. I said in a post months ago that I wanted to smell fragrant mint from my own garden as I applied the condensate from an icy glass of tea to my sweaty face some hot day. I did that today and it inspired me to stage a re-enactment for my portrait.

    Ah, it's sooooooo hot!

I think that the third shot would have been perfect if something hadn’t crawled across my cheek just as the timer did its thing. I know you all know that I’m not afraid of little garden critters. But the last critter I had seen before taking my iced tea break and picking up the camera was a cane spider. Do you know cane spiders? They’re about half the size of a tarantula and twice as ugly. Turns out it was a mosquito on my face, but can you blame me for flinching? Any resemblance to Scarlette O’Hara is mere coincidence.

Please note that I am attired in the requisite local yardwork attire of a man’s undershirt with an oversized tank on top. Faded and frayed, they’ve seen better days, but they’re cool and comfy for working in the tropical sun. My matching garden gloves are lost somehwere in the clutter, so please forgive the very un-Southern lack of co-ordination. The matching color of the sweat band is a mere serendipity. It happened to be the least sweaty one available this morning when I went out to work in the yard. Which I need to get back to before I lose my momentum. If you’d like to see more self-portrait drama, go on over to Digi-Cass and see who else is sharing their face today.

    1. Girl, you are bringing sexy back!

    2. This is probably the best series of self portraits I’ve seen in a long time!! I love it! Down to the un-coordinated style :) The last pic is rather come hither, despite the mosquito!

    3. Those are really GREAT shots! I wouldn’t have noticed the “critter” if you hadn’t said anything. Looks like a beauty mark to me.

    4. I’m so glad that you noticed, Mr. Fab! A sexy guy like you would notice, of course!

    5. Jennifer, I usually take twenty or thirty photos before I get one I’m willing to publish as a self-portrait. I just did not have the time to keep on trying today, so I decided to go with “warts and all, lol!

    6. The spot above the right corner of my mouth is a mole, Jules. The mosquito is behind my left glove and doens’t show in the photo. :D

    7. I LOVE pic #3! So very dramatic!

    8. Skeet, those are fantastic photos!

Wish you hadn’t mentioned the cane spider, though. The first night we lived on O’ahu (on the windward side), I was unpacking boxes and felt my husband tapping my shoulder. Except it wasn’t my husband. It was one of those spiders, and it was crawling toward my face. I had no idea I could move so fast.

Wish we’d met before I left the island. Love your blog!

    9. Those are great. Very action ^_^

    10. I thought that photo was kinda fun, too, Whim. Phone my agent! I’m Hollywood bound! :D

    11. I really, really HATE cane spiders, Kate! So big and ugly and they jump! Ick!

So when will you be visiting Oahu again? We’ll do lunch! :D

    12. Mahalo Ami-chan! I had a lot of fun with my self portraits this time around, though I really need to practice with the zoom and timer features on my camera, lol!

    13. Love the pics! Dang i missed the meme this week.

    14. Oh, these are very good. Even the “missed shot” adds to the series.

    15. Lol, Cass! I thought I was the only one who did things a week late, giggle!
