8 Things
My friend Denise tagged me to do this meme. I could almost steal her first paragraph and make it mine. Actually, I think I should. “I always struggle with these things. I’m great at asking questions but not so great at answering them or providing info upfront.” Yeah, we have that in common, but Denise is a good friend, so I’ll take an honest shot at this. Here are the rules:
Each player lists 8 facts/habits about themselves. The rules of the game are posted at the beginning before those facts/habits are listed. At the end of the post, the player then tags 8 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know that they have been tagged and asking them to read your blog.
Now let’s see if I can come up with eight scintillating and thoughtful things to tell you about me:
1. I keep a pocket dictionary on the pull-out platform for my keyboard. That’s because I have an attack of the stupids numerous times each day and think that something I just typed looks all wrong. Scintillate does have two Ls!
2. I got glasses and braces when I was in second grade. Little kids didn’t have glasses and braces back then, at least not any that I knew. I was the oddball.
3. I got my braces off when I was in seventh or eighth grade. I’d been smiling with lips closed all of those years and even some of my best friends didn’t know I had had braces. I still haven’t learned to feel comfortable smiling with my lips open.
4. I inspected the Statue of Liberty for termites. Oaky, okay - not the Statue. The museum in her pedestal.
5. Tennessee Williams had a balcony overlooking our courtyard when I lived briefly with my brother in his French Quarter apartment in New Orelans.
6. My ex and his family were moonshiners.
7. I used to teach needlework classes.
8. I haven’t left this island in eight years.
Here’s the part where I alter the rules to suit myself. I don’t like to tag people unless I know they want to be tagged. We all like memes, sometimes, but other times they’re inconvenient. So I’m not going to tag anyone right now. I’m going to go looking for volunteers and will edit and tell you who I tagged once I have eight lined up.

As to number 1, I can’t spell very well so I have a little icon in my Taskbar. It is a dictionary from WordWeb. I can’t tell you how handy it is. You can either type in the word or highlight it with your cursor and hit on the icon and the definition pops right up (or a suggestion if you spelled the word wrong). Hey sweets. If you just type the word in the google search bar, the word linked to a dictionary page will be right there at the top right of the search results….
But I do like a good paper dictionary too.
Oh and one more thing, you used to be really good at answering questions. We should practice more often.

I’m the same with spelling (mild dyslexia), but I tend to use the spell checker built into FireFox, it works well enough most of the time, and when it doesn’t, I normally have Word open (for PPP posts with min. word counts) anyway.
