My friend Lisa
June is turning out to be a pretty good month for my friend Lisa. Last week she got to quit being pregnant and she and her husband got to welcome a second beautiful child into their home. Now that their son has arrived, they have a matched set, one boy and one girl. Congrats to the blm family! Her second bit of good news doesn’t compete with the first (not that anything ever could!) but, still, I hope that Lisa considers it good news that she won the Tuesday Teaser Puzzle conest.
Lisa and I both moved our blogs from blogspot to private domains at the same time, about four months ago. I really like her new theme. The blue and white create an attractive and crisp look, it’s well-organized, and I love the image header with a lightbulb inside a head. How perfect for My Thoughts, Ideas and Ramblings! Some of the thoughts she’s had recently concern why someone would change the number on their house. This doesn’t happen often (I’m terrible at Trivial Pursuit!) but I may have the right little nugget of information that could answer the question. I’ve seen the same thing happen numerous time with houses here in Hawaii and the reason has always been the same. Some Asian cultures place a lot of emphasis on the power of numbers to attract or repel luck. I inspect houses that are being marketed and I’ve seen a number of cases where the sellers changed their house number to a lucky one so it would have a better chance of being sold, or where a buyer held up the deal until a number was changed. I don’t know that that is the answer to Lisa’s question, but it’s an answer that could fit.
Lisa is a SAHM and helps support her growing family with Lia Sophia Jewelry. They’re getting ready to drop a lot of items (I think so they can introduce new stuff to their catalog.) They have some really beautiful pieces, so if you like jewelry (Duh! Who doesn’t?) or were planning on buying some for someone else, now would be a good time to check out Lisa’s Lia Sophia Homepage before some lovely pieces drop off of the list. I’m sure Lisa will be willing to help you get the ones you want.
I hope you’ll go visit Lisa and congratulate her on her new blessing. Tell her skeet sent you!

I haven’t encountered anyone changing a house number because it was/wasn’t auspicious but…
(This happened when I was a kid, so I don’t know the details of how it was accomplished, but I didn’t get the impression that it was a lot of trouble.)
We live on a flag lot and our house number had a letter after it - all the houses on the driveway had the same number followed by a letter. This sometimes caused confusion for mail carriers, newspaper delivery kids and people who presumed from our address that we lived in an apartment complex or condo. Then we ended up with overlapping names - only two first names and two last names between the 3 homeowners. Crazy. We were getting the wrong mail on a regular basis.
Eventually we found out that there was a whole sequence of open numbers between the properties on the driveway closer to the corner and ours, so my dad changed our house number to a standalone number that fit into that gap. Later the new next door neighbors liked the idea so much that they changed their house number too, so as far as I know only the first house at the bottom of the hill still has the original number.

H8, I used to deliver newspapers to a bunch of houses on flag lots. Most of them were numbered with a letter following, as you’ve mentioned. A few of them had gotten wise and made the change.
I did an inspection for a multi-million dollar house a couple of years go. The purchaser was a Japanese investor who wasn’t even going to live in it. When I went to do the inspeciton I couldnt’ find the house. Called th realtor and she remembered that the addy had been changed and gave me the new one. The guy wanted the house, but was going to back out fo the deal if the number couldn’t be changed, lol! Needless to day, the realtor didn’t mind going out of her way to walk the change through whichever department it is that does such things.
When are you going to start bloggin? You have so many interesting stories in you!
