What is your domain name worth?

Have you ever wondered what your domain name is worth? That wasn’t something that I was too concerned with when I selected skeeterbess.com for mine. I wanted to have a name that was all mine, but didn’t worry about what the name could do for me or how much value it would have. I’m a little more internet savvy now and realize that, from an SEO perspective, I chose a terrible name. I’m not considering changing it or selling my domain, but if I ever decide to have a new domain with monetization in mind, I’ll try to get creative with words that are rich in SEO possibilities. No one outside of my own circle knows who or what a skeeterbess is. Everyone knows what money is, what tech means, and what to find on a site with photo in the domain name. I just got my domain name appraisal and wasn’t surprised to learn that my choice is only worth $21.00. Not so much, when you consider that the right name can be sold for $5000, and some have even sold for $10,000. If I’d played my cards right, skeet’s stuff could have been a nice little nest egg for me to cash in someday for my retirement fund.

  1. Well Flo’s Place with worth $21.00. My blogspot blog is only worth $12.00 :)

  2. Kind of wierd that your PageRank is 4, mine is zero and they say my URL is worth 413 and yours 12?

Would you be happy exchanging domainnames, according to LeapFish, you gain a lot :-)

  3. We’ll know better than to name our domains after ourselves next time, Flo. :D

  4. I’m gonna stick with what I’ve got, LL. Uniqueness in domain names may not sell, but I still like it.

Domain name value isn’t based on traffic and links. PR is. You picked a great domain name and it has value even if you were to park it and not use it. I’ve seen you “working ” your blog around the forums. PR will come, then your blog with be worth a bundle. :D

  5. Your domainname is very easy to rememer, me like !

Ah, since you know me from the forums: try to see what the domain payperpost.com is worth… you almost double that :-)

Well, if one can make so easy money with just choosing a domainname, then me should change business :-)

  6. My site’s Estimated Domain Name Value: $111.00… not bad, right?

  9. I posted, my comment is not appearing. :(

  10. Hey, my domain was appraised at $45,269.00. For that price, I would SERIOUSLY consider selling it!

  11. […] ElectricVenom.com is worth whaaaat? Where do I […]

  12. $6,324?

    Nope. Wouldn’t sell.

  13. mysinglenotmomlife.com : 20 dollar
    notelectricvenom.com : 20 dollar

So it pays of to be a single mom and I don’t know how I need to incorporate the venom thing in my future life :-)

  14. All of mine were worth $21. I am starting to see a pattern in the system, what about you?

  15. Maybe Ted should change the name of PayPerPost, LL, you think? :D

S thought up a whole bunch of clever domain names that I thought would make some money (after I did the post and tried out the tool.) someone else had already registered all of them, so we’ll have to get really creative to come up with a valuable name that’s not taken yet.

  16. Your domain name is lot more valuable than mine, Fez Travel. Good job!

  17. Oh, Kat! You could sell your name for a pretty penny!

  18. You and me, Kiviniar! Guess we thought of domain name value a little too late, lol! :D

  19. Kat, looks like Akismet sees a list and thinks “spam,” lol!

  20. Woot! Kate, you ever think about auctioning off your domain name? You definitely have a winner! :D

  21. I won’t be seeling my domain name either, Mad William, but it must feel good to know that yours is worth money in the bank!

  22. Looks like adding “not” to their domain names kills the value, Hm, LL?

  23. Yeah, Steve, it looks like $21 is the default value for all of us too unimaginative to come up with a high-dollar domain name, lol! :D

  24. I have three.
My personal blog one is worth $684 - never selling it. (I know it’s worth more because its the name of several stores!)
My writing website is worth $21.00
and my local city site is worth: $20.00 (I also know it is worth a lot more too)
It was interesting to see what they think though. I wouldn’t worry too much. It just depends really on who wants it. For instance, would you really even want the domain name google if it wasn’t for the fact that it is such a huge search engine worth millions? Probably not. This was a fun tool to use! Thanks for sharing.

  25. Most of us don’t see our domain names as commercial assets, Nicole. I think that we see the name as an extension of our own personalities or of our blog’s “voice.” Still, it’s fun to see what someone might pay for our choices. :D
