Self Portrait Sunday for August 19, 2007
This will probably be the last picture with my plumeria tree in it. The poor thing has gotten sicker and sicker in the last month and I don’t think it can be saved. The white flies have destroyed all of the blooms, are making the leaves drop off and now the branches are getting soft. The tree is stressed from the drought and I think that’s why it’s gotten so sickly. My little lawn is suffering, too, but the herb garden and perennials seem to be doing okay. We really need a good rainy season! You can go see how my friends are weathering the day over at Digi-Cass

Did you get any precip. from the passing hurricanes? It rained a little here in Illinois tonight, but not enough to do any good. The ground just drinks it up. I did the Sunday Self Portrait for the first time! Kinda scary, I feel a little exposed.

Did you try pruning it way back? Sometimes it can work to save the tree…

So it’s hot and dry over there too. Sorry to hear it. Farmers are losing their crops left and right here. I think Texas has been hogging all of the rain.

Sorry you’re about to lose your tree… I don’t really know anything about keeping plants alive.

Jo, we didn’t get more than a few sprinkles from the hurricane - not even enough to help the firefighters put out the brush fire.
I’ll be trying to catch up on blog visits today. Still haven’t seen the self portraits!

SF Giants - the tree was a problem before it got sick. The roots are cracking my neighbor’s driveway, so it needed to go anyway. I hate to lose it, but I guess it’s time.

Whim, the whole island chain is feeling the drought, but especially those on the leeward coasts, which are dry even in good times. Losing a few ornamental plants is not that big a deal in the face of the brush fire hazard and the farming losses.

Jennifer, plumeria trees ususally do well, even on my dry coast. The combination of drought conditions and an extreme whitefly population was just too much at one time.

We are hot and dry, too. No plants, millions of bugs. Blech.
