Change of plans
It’s inevitable, I think, that the peaut butter side of the bread will land face down if you drop it. Just as inevitable that the one grocery bag I dropped was the one I should have been most careful with.
It wasn’t a total loss. I’ve been thinking of Mexican food for a few days and had picked up a taco dinner kit for my evening meal. I’ve never been big on following recipes anyway, so I added a step to the instructions printed on the box.
It turned out to be a mighty tasty meal. I’m actually thinking about adding some powdered eggs and a taco kit to my evac box. It would be easy enough to prepare this in an outdoor kitchen should the need arise, and would be a pleasant break from canned and dried foods if I ever have to rough it for a while.
The boys were happy, too. They each got a little scrambled egg and cheese mixed with their kibble last night. They almost always benefit when I get clumsy in the kitchen.

If life gives you broken eggs, make tacos!

Very interesting… I always manage to drop the bag with the eggs in it too

That was an eggcellent idea…. hehe

Yeah, Lee - an omelette was a possibility, but why abandon the taco I was craving?

Jennifer, I think it has to do with a natural collusion between the law of physics and Murphy’s Law, don’t you?

Oh, Jackie! Groooooooooooan!

Those look good! I’m hungry…

I ate the leftovers tonight, Whim, without the egg. It was beter the first time around.:) I think I’ll make eggs a permanent addition to my taco fixing.

Hmmm, what happens if we take your peanut buttered bread, tie to the back of a cat and then drop the cat with its feet pointing up? Which will hit the ground, the cat’s feet or the peanut butter? Or do you end up with a madly spinning cat/peanut butter combination stuck in mid-air?
OH, and thanks for making me hungry this early before lunch. WOW, those tacos look sooooo gooood!

Here’s a taco tip:
if there is a walmart nearby, buy carne picada. It’s the mexican version of ground beef, more coarsely ground than ours. Your tacos will be less mex-american and more authentic. Good for burritos too.

I tagged you for the middle name meme. I hope you haven’t been tagged before: http://ami-chan.net/2007/08/23/does-this-mean-i-have-no-life/

Oh! Those look so good, I never thought of adding eggs to the tacos before, I may have to give that a try. I have the same kind of luck as you with the bag dropping.. or I drop a case of soda & have to madly race around dodging spraying stickiness!

Wow– your tacos look good! I might just have to reconsider my recent hasty decision to boycot them.

Leigh, it IS yummy! I ate the last little bit of taco meat in the last leftover shell and didn’t put an egg in it. It was disappointing! I think my little accident has changed the way I’ll do tacos forever, lol!
August 24th, 2007 at 1:46 pm, skeet Says:
Ron, I think you should do the peanut butter sandwich/cat experiment and tape it for posterity.

No Super Walmart for us, mlankton. Ours are still in the dark ages, and don’t have a real grocery section. My mom used to buy a roast and have it course-ground for homemade chile, though, so I know just what you mean. IT does make a difference!

Spectacular droppage is in my nature, Dyane. I never drop a box of cereal or pasta at the grocery store. Syrup or pickles in glass bottles are more my style!
August 24th, 2007 at 1:52 pm, skeet Says:
Hoto, I’m not going to wait for an accident next time. I really liked these tacos better than any I’ve made before, so next time I’ll have eggs handy on purpose!
August 24th, 2007 at 1:54 pm, skeet Says:
Laurie, scrambled eggs take tacos to a whole new level. I’m pretty sure it’s the only way I’ll do them in the future. Hold the bugs, though.
