Aloha Andy. My apologies for being slow to respond to your comment about my post on the Jena 6. I can only imagine how stressful this horrible situation is for all of your friends who attend Jena High. It needs to be resolved fairly and equitably for the sake of the entire student body, the entire community. There can be no sense of community or forward motion with these terrible injustices hanging fire.

Yes, I know about the leagal fund and have encouraged my readers to support the Jena 6 in any way they can, including monetary contributions. I would imagine that the legal bills are mounting to alarming proportions.

Hi, Skeet, Your article about Jena 6 is great. I have some friends in Jena High, some are white, some black. I must say that this incident was horrible. Do you know, that the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) established a fund to help pay attorney fees?

Sad, isn't it Allan, what news editors consider to be newsworthy on any given day? The Jena 6 story is finally making headlines outside of Louisiana and the Black press, in part because of the demonstration and I think maybe in part because so many bloggers have drawn attention to it. I'm looking forward to using the Carnival of Injustice to bring other worthy stories to the forefront.

Sorry I was so slow to respond to this, Chuck. Yeah, I think Suni is onto something. So many terrible things get shoved into a closet in favor of stories about celebs showing their butts or the latest big sporting event. We, as bloggers, have the power to put those stories into a spotlight. The Jena 6 story is getting more coverage now, perhaps in part because so many bloggers ran the story. We can do powerful things with this carnival!

It's amazing how little news coverage this is getting...too busy w/ OJ and Britney, I suppose.
The more things change, the more they don't...

Skeet,

Thanks for stopping by my site (linked through the carnival). I'd written a post prior to seeing the CoI, but when I saw that Suni was running the carnival, I signed up.

My post was (obviously) short on details and a little irreverent, but I think I still hit on the salient points...
