Proclaiming my style

25191200-preview

I don’t do a lot of entertaining. I have a friend who comes over for dinner and a movie every now and then. We usually use whatever dinnerware is handy and eat in front of the TV with plates on our laps. We eat at the table, though, when she and her son have either Thanksgiving or Christmas dinner at my place. When I built my new screened lanai I had visions of having the book brunch group over for coffee and literature overlooking the garden. I’d still like to do that if I ever get louvered windows put in (so we can close them and not get wet if it rains.) I’ll probably drag out Mom’s china for those occasions, even though it’s not really my style. Don’t get me wrong - it’s really quite lovely bone china, with gold trim surrounding pretty little flowers. Do you see me as a pretty little flower kind of person? Yeah - I don’t either. I’ve been all grown up for a few decades, so you’d think I’d have established my own style by buying serveware that makes more of a statement about me. Something like this
New Wave Caffe’ Chocolate Drops set sings to my soul. The generous-sized mugs (13.5 ounces!) appeal to my need to be be lavish with servings (you’ve seen my morning mug!) and the plates are just what’s needed for brunch or thanksksgiving dessert on the lanai overlooking my herbs and tropicals. I’m enough of an elitist that I’d let my friends know we were using the same dinnerware that graces the tables of the Pope, crowned royalty, households of the rich and famous, and renowned restaurants and chefs on every continent. And Chocolate Drops - you know about me and my relationship with chocolate, right? How stylish would I be serving chocolate desserts and coffee on chocolate dinnerware? I think the only question remaining is whether I should buy the windows or the serveware first. It’s really a moot point, though, since I can get 20% off of any serveware from Villeroy & Boch if I buy before October 31st. What do you think? Wouldn’t Chocolate Drops be more “me” than those delicate little flowers?

  1. Ooh, what fun, I like those! The wavy plates are very cute - is there a hole for the cup or just a depression? Great handles on the cups too.

Let us know if/when you get the windows done! ;)

  2. I’ve been so disappointed not to host you all, H8. It was th eplan from he beginning, but we had a big rainstorm right after I built it and I realized my error. Even when there’s no rain, I can’t keep it clean because of the dust that filters through the screens. It’s really not usable for guests until I get some windows installed.

And, yeah - we’d have some fun with the plates and cups, wouldn’t we? Looks to me likr a depression in the plate to nestle the mug.

  3. Just because I can’t figure it out doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy it by the way! It’s sort of like doing crossword puzzles. I’m no good at them but I still give them a try! That will just make me that much more excited when I do actually figure one out! :-D
