Self Portrait Sunday for November 4, 2007

    Stuff 131

I have my father’s nose. My grandfather’s chin. I look a lot like my younger brother - we both seem to have inherited the same blend of characteristics from both sides. First and foremost, though, I’ve always been my mother’s daughter. I think her portrait was taken when she was a bit younger than I am now. She’d certainly had less sun than me, and she “cleaned up real nice” for her picture that day. She liked glam and carried it well. One of our neighbors was a hairdresser and she loved spending time with him because he always made her look her best. I’m not sure if he was the one who did such a great job on her portrait day - he died rather young, so it may have been someone else. Whoever it was made her look fabulous. I was always more of a “run my fingers through my hair and call it a do” kinda gal, and I haven’t been overly-fond of makeup since I “got over it” in my teens. Still, the resemblance prevails. I’m still my mother’s daughter.

I’m off to visit the other Self-Portraiters. I don’t know who each of them looks like, but I know they look like friends. Get on over to Digi-Cass and you’ll see what I mean. You’re my friend, too, so why not join us? Just post your own self portrait, grab the code-thingie at Cass’s place and comment below her own portrait. We’ll all come visit and re-affirm our friendships!

    1. Your mom was very pretty and I see a lot of her looks in you!

    2. I see a resemblance in your eyes, cheeks, and smile. You look a lot like your mother.

When I was little, everyone told me that I look like my mom, which made me happy because she died when I was only six. But as I got older, I stopped looking like her as much and started to favor my dad’s side. oh well! lol

    3. Charlotte, Mom was cover-girl pretty in her youth. I don’t think she liked herself much in her later years. She struggled with her weight adn it did things to her self-esteem. I’ve always wished my skin had been as pretty as hers.

    4. Those are the things I see, too, Ann. I didn’t get her face - just bits and pieces. The nicest bits and pieces, I think. Enough to make me hers without making me a carbon-copy.

It’s true, you know, that each generation lives on in the next. In our genes and our character and our history - but in our faces too, that tell the world where we come from.

    5. i think glam is an understatement! your mom knew how to pull off a look, and you look strikingly like her! Very pretty.

    6. You do resemble your mom a lot!! Wow!! We have 7 kids in our family and we all look like my Mom. It’s weird!!

    7. Inspired self portrait this week. You are a lovely reflection of your Mom. She’d be proud, for sure.

I feel that looking like my mom is the reason I don’t have “issues” about my looks like so many young women do these days. Being short, “soft” figured, and all is something I share with Mom, my Aunts and my Gram. Since I love them and know they are beautiful, I know I am, too.

    8. I love this pic Skeet!

    9. You’re both absolutely gorgeous! :)

    10. She did clean up much more nicely than I’ve ever done, Corrin, lol! I’ve always wanted to be girly-girly, but it’s just not a look I do well.

    11. You made me giggle, Flo. I guess we should only be concerned if we DON’T look like our parents, lol! :D

    12. Tina, the women in my family are mostly short and “soft” figured, too. I was teased for years as the only skinny chick in the bunch, downright boney for most of my life. But there’s a sameness to us that identifies all of us as being of the same brood, so to speak. When we get together there can be no doubt that we’re all related.

    13. Aw, mahalo Whim!

    14. Mahalo, Angie. Sweet of you to say!
