Good stuff around the island

SpreadSunshine1

I’ll be running Share Some Good Stuff later today, so if you’ve found a good news story in your community send me the link and your post will be included. I’ve been scouring the local news sources for some feel-good stories to add to the one I already planned on using from my own blog. Here are some stories that caught my eye:

We’re getting a new marketplace and it’s close enough for me to visit regularly. I sometimes find someone selling fresh fish, smoked meats or local produce beside the road as I travel around the island, but they don’t keep regular hours and you never know where they’ll be. We haven’t had a permanent fresh market on the Leeward Coast, so I was really excited to find out that The Waipahu Festival Marketplace will be opening tomorrow! That’s about twenty minutes from my house and will be easy for me to visit on a regular basis. Yeah! Fresh corn and beets and green beans and fish and … and … and … I’m excited!

I love the imaginative things that kids groups do for charity fundraisers. This year I can take my turkey to be roasted in an imu if I want to! For those of you who don’t know, an imu is the old, traditional Hawaiian oven - a hole in the ground where food is placed on hot rocks, covered up and allowed to slow roast. Kudos to the Kailua High School athletic department for coming up with this great idea! Hope you make lots of bucks, kids!

Can’t finish this up without the really grand news, can I? Yeah, you knew this was coming: Surf’s up! We’ve had pretty decent surfing conditions lately, but the big winter swells are expected to start soon. Winter is when we see those towering walls of water on the North Shore and also when all of the big surf tournaments happen, so everyone is tingling with excitement and anticipation!

  1. Hi, Skeet! :) I happen to have a great feel-good story I posted just yesterday. It made me feel really great. It’s at http://prismofwhispers.com/archives/2007/11/smashing-stereotypes.php

I would LOVE to see a surfing tournament in person sometime. You’re so lucky!

  2. Mahalo for joining in,Leigh! Got you hooked up and good stuff is live at my place.

I love watching surfers! They’re amazing athletes and some of them are pretty good eye candy, too! ;)
