They collect canned goods for the local food bank each winter and used school uniforms every summer. Right now, they are selling Pierre Pigs and Thibodeaux Turkeys (beanies) for $25 each. With each purchase, a real ham or turkey donation will be made to a needy family. One of the teachers at the school has a son in the army. His unit is living in tents and sleeping on the ground. The PTA president told me yesterday that she was thinking of "adopting" this unit. That would mean that we'd be collecting things for them as well. They asked for things like ramen noodles, instant hot cocoa, cooking untensils, etc. I think it's a great idea! My son’s school is always organizing some good stuff.
