Biotene Brings Smiles
I have had a dry mouth. One of the symptoms of my medical condition is that I fight dehydration all day every day. Despite drinking huge quantities of water and other liquids, my mouth is always dry. When I wake up each morning there is no moisture in my tongue and sometimes it’s stuck to the roof of my mouth. The medication I take to help with my digestive disorder also has “dry mouth” as a side-effect. Twelve years of dry mouth has caused damage to my teeth and gums. I’ve used a leading sensitive toothpaste for years, but it hasn’t helped with the pain, especially where receding gums have exposed sensitive areas. The pain got so bad a few weeks ago that I couldn’t bear the feel of my toothbrush along my gumline, so I bought a super-soft baby toothbrush. I’ve also been using a straw to keep cool liquids from contacting my front teeth at the gumline, where the damage is the worst. These steps helped some, but the pain didn’t go away.
Last week I got a sample of Biotene in the mail. I knew the sample was coming, but I didn’t know much about the product. I was happily surprised when I saw from the packaging that this wasn’t just another senitive toothpaste, but rather one is specially formulated for my particular situation. Biotene addresses both my sensitive teeth and the dry mouth problem that causes the sensitivity.
My first impression on using Biotene was that it felt different as I was brushing my teeth. I’ve used gel formulas for years, but even those have a slightly gritty texture that I find unpleasant. Biotene is very smooth, amost liquid, with no abrasive feel at all. The taste - hmmm, how to describe it? - it’s very light, but I’d say bubblegum or maybe tutti-fruiti, very understated. Having been in the pest control industry for many years, I understand wetting agents and that came to mind as I was brushing. You’ll see what I mean when you ty it. Your mouth will feel “wetter” than it does with other toothpastes. Slick.
The bottom line, of course, is how it works. I noticed when I woke up after my first use of Biotene that my mouth was not dried out. This was the first time I’ve experienced that in many years and was a very pleasant surprise. Tonight I drank iced tea with my dinner and did not use a straw. The tea washed around my front teeth and I did not get that horrid shock of pain that anyone with sensitive teeth is familiar with. I think Biotene may provide some long-term help with another problem, too. I have a severe digestive disorder. Having a dry mouth increases my digesive problems because I don’t produce the enzyme-carrying saliva needed to aid digestion. Biotene makes no claims to assist my type of disorder, but that won’t keep me from being hopeful.
I started looking for Biotene Sensitive Toothpaste in my local stores a few days ago. My sample was running out and I didn’t want to go back to my old toothpaste. The national discount store and the regional drug store where I do most of my shopping didn’t have it. Both carried various Biotene products (did you know they make a Dry Mouth Gum? I bought some!) but neither had Biotene Sensitive Toothpaste. The paharmacists for both chains agreed to look into adding Biotene Sensitive to the other Biotene products they already carry. Today I was in one of my favorite shopping centers and impulsively decided to try KMart. I’m so glad I did because they carry more of the Biotene products than the (ahem!) other major national discount chain. If they hadn’t had it I knew I’d be able to order online, but now it’s nice to know I have options. If you suffer from either dry mouth or sensitive teeth (or both, like me) you should check out Biotene. I talk about a lot of products on my blog. You haven’t seen me giving an enthusiastic recommendation for many of those. Biotene wins the skeet seal of approval. I’ve noticed a marked improvement in both conditions after only a week of use. Yes, I’m enthusiastically recommending that you try it!

There is something that is just so wrong about a toothpaste earning the skeet seal of approval. That said, I totally rock on this toothpaste, and I will be looking for more when my sample is gone.

Somehow I never took you for a “rubber duckie” kind of gal…do you have a tub duckie?

Hmmmmmmm! Should I remove the seal of approval, Cass? I really want my readers to know that this is a great product and I’m not just being someone’s “mouthpiece,” lol!

I have a collection of tub duckies, Jo, incuding some in costume - Christmas, grad, Hawaii, etc. The whole guest bath is rubber duckie. Can’t take pictures in my own bath because everything has a film of baby powder, lol! Ought to clean in there soon!
