What’s on your desktop?
My pal Sprite at Homespun Honolulu has tagged me to tell you what’s on my desktop. No one who knows me will be surprised by my choice. Books are an important part of my life and I love quirky art. It was only natural that I fell in love with Written Worlds by Ron Gonsalves the first time I saw it. Its depiction of a library offering entry into the worlds of our imagination speaks to my heart and my intellect, besides being delicious eye candy. Canadian artist Gonslaves, though inspired by the works of Magritte and Escher (my “other” favorite artist) has a style distinctly his own, blending the surreal with the mundane to create what he says is best described as Magical Realism. I don’t care what he calls it. I just love that he does it!
I’ve been hesitant to tag folks in the past, not wanting anyone to feel that they “had to” respond in kind. These are perilous times to be linking anyone to my blog, which the Big G has apparently identified as a “bad neighborhood” because I’ve had the audacity to write for sponsors through networks other than their own. They’ve become quite concerned with how I keep my checking account healthy and have demoted me to a zero. I’d be flattered at their personal attention if I didn’t know that I was only one of thousands thus blessed. The call is yours, my friends. I won’t give you a “valuless link” unless you request it. If you’d like to play along just let me know in your comments and I’ll hook you up. Just don’t say that I didn’t warn you!
And Cass is the first to step up to the plate. She ain’t afraid of no g-monster! Line forms to the rear, folks. Who else has the courage to thumb their nose at G by asking me to link them? (This is not a slam at the courage of anyone who is avoiding risks until the dust settles. We all understand and I know that many are not so much scared as they are confused as to what’s “allowed.” I’ll still respect you if you avoid links for a while!
)
And I’m happy to report we have two more players. I honestly didn’t know what to expect this time around, considering the recent carnage. Beth, about whom I will have something to say soon, will boldly share her desktop with the world! So will Val, who plays my games and lets me play at her place! Yah! Are we all getting back to “life as usual” in the blogosphere?
Edit:
Since Blueyes was bold enough to criticize me in my own home I thought I should take a look at what she had to say. Well, yes, Blueyes, I had way too many icons on my desktop, especially considering that I rarely use any of them. I’ve repented. I’ve kept the icons for a few trouble-shooting programs that I like to get to quickly when things go wrong. I’ve kept Rhapsody because I’ve just installed it and it’s convenient to have it right there as I explore. I’ve kept my Netscape icon because I use it frequetnly to compare browser views of my blog. Everthing else was just fluff & stuff and is gone.

Oy vie that’s a lot of icons cluttering it up lol I’m a minimalist and the fewer the better. The only one I have left is the trashcan and my sony ericsson icon which I can’t seem to get the hail off but I’m working on it.

Mahalo, Misty Dawn! I’ll blog it in a few days - when I get caught up!

Lol! You were right, Blueyes. Come back and take another look.

I use my own digital renders for my desktop themes. As far as icons on the desk top, I don’t have more than about six. Those six are ones I use every day and often times multiple times over the course of the day.

The big Gee
Can just bite me
I love Skeet
Enough to take the heat.
If you link
I won’t blink.
Obviously I am much better at prose than poetry. Also I need a nap, so that borders on heinous. My point is that I will play.

I put all my “icons” in the Quick Launch section and have my sidebar on the side
Much better

I’m a huge fan of the Quick Launch. I loathe programs that automatically add a shortcut to the Desktop. Since I got the laptop I’ve been really good about keeping the Desktop clutter-free, although I do have folders for everything under my username and I still don’t know where half my crap is.

I love it, Skeet! Yep, it’s you alright. I think it’s amusing that everyone is taking this time to clean up their desktop… just like cleaning house before company. LOL! Can you guys come over before Thanksgiving?

Ah! Of course you would use your own art, Sarah! Such lovely stuff you do! I’ll try to be more diligent about keeping those pesky icons under control in the future, lol!
November 17th, 2007 at 9:52 pm, skeet Says:
Mahalo for your bravery, Ms. Cass! Gotcha linked, for what it’s worth, - which apparently isn’t much at all, lol!
November 17th, 2007 at 9:54 pm, skeet Says:
Could you explain this “Quick Launch Section” blueyes? I haven’t a clue what that is.
November 17th, 2007 at 9:55 pm, skeet Says:
Clutter should be my middle name, Beth, though I’ve proven with my desktop that I can banish it when I set my mind on it.
November 17th, 2007 at 9:58 pm, skeet Says:
Ah, I have some use in this world after all - to motivate you to clean before the holidays, Sprite! Yeah, I’ll do that, lol!
November 17th, 2007 at 9:58 pm, skeet Says:
Will do, Val! Mahalo!
November 18th, 2007 at 5:01 am, valmg Says:
I’ve put mine up Skeet! Thanks.

Here is my desktop from my home computer. It’s the one I do all my blogging, art and nanowrimoing.
November 18th, 2007 at 3:16 pm, skeet Says:
YW, Val! Makes for a good excuse for another post on a sloooooow sunday, doesn’t it?
November 18th, 2007 at 3:17 pm, skeet Says:
How’s Nano going for you, Sarah? I don’t even have the nerve to tackle it. I salute those of you who do it, though!
November 18th, 2007 at 10:43 pm, pussreboots Says:
Nano is going well. A summer’s worth of preparation is paying off. I’m at 33,100 words.

What’s On My Desktop-A Frog Of Course….
