Tuesday Teaser photo verification

TT02 garlic press

TT02 can opener

TT02 egg slicer

TT02 pasta maker

TT02 Chef's knife

TT02 bar strainer

That wasn’t the sound of thunder you heard early on Tuesday morning. It was the sound of a stampede as Tuesday Teaser players took one look a the “new and improved” Tuesday Teaser and took off running. I think maybe we should call it “new and not imporved enough.” Here are the answers:

a. garlic press
b. can opener
c. egg slicer
d. pasta maker
e. chef’s knife (”knife” would have sufficed)
f. beverage strainer
g.Theme - kitchen utensils

So here’s what was supposed to happen and how I screwed it up. You, the players, should have looked at the photo mosaic, figured out what several items were, recognized the theme and used that information to figure out what the remaining items were. That was the theory, anyway, and I think a sound one. The flaw was in the execution. By placing the photo clues into a mosaic I made it necessary to compress them to a tiny size to accommodate the width available on the blog. That made it difficult for you to see enough detail to solve the puzzle. If it had worked as planned most of you would have guessed the theme and cracked open the “tough nut” of the last clue. Alas, none of you realized that the theme placed all of the clues in the kitchen and not the bathroom (several of you thought the last clue was a shower head.)

No winner this week due to my ineptness, but that means that the winner next week will get a double prize - two blog reviews and two entries into the February prize drawing. Now it’s time for some feedback from you. What did you think of the new conept for Tuesday Teasers? If the photos had been more genrously sized (like, say, the photos above) do you think it would have worked? Shall we try it again next week, using the new multi-clue, theme-related format in a more player-friendly layout? I think the use of multiple clues elevates the level of challenge (a good thing) but I don’t want it to discourage you from playing (a very, very bad thing!) Should I have mentioned in the post that you can always see the photo clues in larger size by clicking any photo to go to my Flikr page? Did any of you do that? Give me your feedback! I want Tuesday Teasers to continue to be a fun distraction for you.

  1. I knew the theme was kitchen utensils. :-)

I tried to post an answer but it didn’t go through and anytime I tried to post again WordPresss wouldn’t let me because it was a “duplicate”.

I also did not get sent to Flikr when I clicked on the pics.

  2. I liked the multi-clue format. It gave me a chance to get into the game before someone solved it! At the risk of admitting to my own ineptness, I did click through to your Flickr account, but it didn’t help.

Even if you posted the photos exactly as above, I never would have guessed “beverage strainer!”

  3. Oh, I forgot to add, thanks for going to all of this trouble for our entertainment!

  4. I like the new format. It should make it a little more challenging and allow it to stay open for a longer period of time, which will allow more people to participate. I myself thought it was in the bathroom, thinking the 5th one was a toilet bowl handle and the 6th one was a showerhead. You’re terrific, trying to create a fun game for us. Thanks!

  5. I too appreciate all your efforts, Skeet. The bigger photos will surely help. Oh, and is your blog available in a large type edition? ;-)

No, I didn’t go to Flikr.

  6. I definitely see how that last one could be mistaken for a shower head! I think the new edition is looking mighty fine. The image sizes are okay, but a little bigger wouldn’t hurt horribly. Then again, I should have my glasses on….

  7. I’m so sorry you had problems commenting on Tuesday Teasers, Whim. I had intended to have comments on full moderation so that late-comers wouldn’t get clues from earlier players. I’ve never used moderation & messed it up. I guess we’ll just have to let folks use earlier players as a cheat-sheet from here out because I certianly don’t want to keep anyone from playing! :D

  8. I learned some things from the lastest Tuesday Teaser, Lee, and I’m hoping it will be more “user friendly” next tiem around! :D

  9. I’m going to stick with the multi-puzzle Tuesday Teasers for a while, Val, but will use what y’all have said to make it a better experience for everyone. :D

  10. Definitely bigger photos for the clues next week, Tammie! I really appreciate your feedback. And you can expand the text you’re viewing in your internet options - did you know that? I haven’t done it in a while, but sometimes I just have to because things aren’t viewer-friendly to my aging eyes!

  11. Wear your glasses next week, Loretta, but I’ll be making the images bigger, too!
