Four Foods on Friday #18

It’s after midnight and I have to be up in a few hours to go to work, so I’m going to have to make my post short and sweet this week. You can participate in Four Foods on Friday by answering the questions below on your own blog. Link back to Val’s post and make sure you also post your link in the comments to her post. She’ll give you some link love when she writes her Friday “What I learned …” post and you get a contest entry in her February giveaway just for participating.

#1. Steak. Plain, steak sauce, hot sauce, ketchup or something else?

That depends on how it’s cooked. If I use a rub or marinade before cooking, I don’t add anything. Why would I when it’s already perfect? If I do a quick cook in the broiler or on the stovetop with no elaborate preparation, I bake some instant fries from the freezer as a go-with. That’s when I slather everything in ketchup!

#2. Water. Flavored, plain, carbonated. How do you like it?

Right from the tap. Hawaii’s water is consistently judged some of the best tasting in the world.

#3. What’s your favorite kind of waffle?

I like my waffles plain, but the syrup or topping fancy. Coconut, blueberry and real maple syrup are favorites.

#4. If you could have any one new small appliance for your kitchen what would it be and why?

I have so many counter-top appliances that I don’t have room for all of them and have to keep some of them inconveniently stored away. I’d find some room, though, if I could get one of those beautiful stand mixers that some of my blogging pals won recently. My little dinky hand mixer doesn’t have much power and I need at least three hands to add ingredients when I use it to mix things like cakes and cookies.

  1. […] I saw it from skeet’s stuff actually, then learned it’s from Valerie on […]

  2. We have great tasing tap water where I am from too. It is almost always a nasty surprise when I go somewhere else and drink the water.

  3. Tap water tastes great where I am too! I feel bad for people who need to spend all that money in filters or bottled water.

  4. We are lucky to have good tap water too because we have a well.

  5. Somehow, just hearing Hawaiian Tap Water makes it sound good!

  6. Aren’t those stand mixers so appealing? And if you love real maple syrup, are you able to get fresh Vermont Maple Syrup in Hawaii? It’s simply the best. There is a great place where you can order from online if you need are interested.

  7. […] Skeet would like a stand mixer and likes plain water. Take a moment to check out the fun Tuesday Teaser game each Tuesday, and she’s recently reformatted it. Skeet’s also posted some new pics from her daily travels, she lives in Hawaii and takes great pics. […]

  8. ;) thanks for the visit!
We’re lucky our tap water tastes good too.. (oh.. and about that val theory.. I totally agree.. hihihi )

  9. Whim, I always hated the tap water where I grew up. It was so dirty (Mississippi River water) that they put tons of chlorine in it to make it safe. It tastes and smells like bleach. I REALLY appreciate the great well water we get in Hawaii!

  10. Kate, I buy bottled water for my evac kit, then carry it in my car to drink while working when it gets near expirey date. Other than the evac kit, though, I don’t see much point in bottled water when what comes out of the tap is so good!

  11. Karen, our water is from wells, too. It’s naturally filtered through the mountain rocks and so good by the time ti gets to us. :)

  12. Hee! Lynne, I wonder if it would taste so good if I was drinking it in, say, New Jersey or Montana?

  13. Kelly, I have a friend who sends me Vermont maple syrup from time to time - candy too! Yum! That’s the real stuff!

  14. Hee! Mahalo for the return visit, Val! Yep, I can never have too many friends named Val. :D

  15. I envy the good tap water, the water here sucks and only if I filter doe sit start to taste bad! Thats what I get for living in a desert.

  16. Thanks for playing Four Foods on Friday. Stumbled.

  17. I’m with you, why mess with perfection of a steak by adding sauce to it.

I answered your yogurt question in this post:

  18. I carry a filter-bottle in my car Blair. I inspect a lot of homes that have been vacant for a while and the water has “gone stale” standing in unused pipes. If I run out of the water I carry, I use the filter to refill my supply. Otherwise, it’s always tap water from home - good stuff!

  19. Thanks for having Four Foods on Friday, Val. I’m glad it’s gotten so popular. That means it should be around for a long, long time. Mahalo for the Stumble, too!

  20. Ah, mahalo, Laura! Off to read about your yogurt!

  21. skeet, you’re the second person to mention coconut topping on their waffles. is this something special??

  22. What I really prefer, Corrin, is coconut pancakes! I use coconut extract and a handful of coconut in the batter, then top with coconut syrup. Oh, so yummy! If I had a waffle iron I’m sure I’d make my waffles the same way, lol! :D

  23. Did someone say coconut? I’m in *jumps up and down gleefully*

  24. Chili queen, you and I are going to get along just fine. There’s a local restaurant chain that has an in-house bakery. Each month they feature one flavor. You should come for a visit during coconut month! Coconut pie, coconut turnovers, coconut muffins, coconut danish … I have to restrain myself to not go every day of coconut month, lol1
