Four Foods on Friday #30
Last week was brown (chocolate!) and this week is white at Four Foods on Friday. There are still a few hours left for you to join us if you like. Just answer the four questions below in a post on your blog and let Val know by posting a comment at the link above. She’ll expound upon the answers and give us all a little linky-love later.
#1. What’s your favorite white beverage? If you don’t have one, what’s your favorite beverage with something white in it?
No favorite white beverage, but I use cream in my coffee (well, fake cream - who can afford the real stuff?)
#2. What’s your favorite white gravy, sauce, condiment, dressing or topping?
White sauce (butter, flour and milk) is a mainstay in my kitchen. It’s the basis for so many wonderful dishes.
#3. What’s your favorite white item from the refrigerated section?
Hm! Swiss cheese, I think!
#4. Share a recipe for something white.
I used a colorful picture when I posted the recipe for Eggs Goldenrod, but it’s one of my favorite white sauce dishes.

Baby Swiss cheese isn’t as strong a smell, is it?
I like the mild taste of it.

I don’t like Swiss either.
Coffee must have creamer, I really like the french vanilla creamer.
Thanks for playing FFOF.
STumbled.

Mmm, swiss cheese. I’ll admit, it has a rather pungent aroma but still yummy on just about any sandwich or an omlete!

White sauce is so basic that it starts dozens of my favorite dishes and sauces, Karen. I can’t run my kitchen without it!

Hee! My sis won’t eat Swiss or parmesan cheeses because of their smells, Blueyes. I won’t eat cabbage for the same reason, so to each his own!

I usually buy baby swiss or Alpine Lace, Charla. I don’t find either to have an offensive aroma.

I don’t buy the flavored creamers, Val, because they have so much sugar they make me gag. My grocery on the coast was out of plain creamer yesterday & I didn’t want to drive twenty miles just for that, so I bought half-and-half. Good stuff!

I use Swiss on sandwiches and in omelets a lot, Anele. I also love to slap some on wheat bread and toast it under the broiler. The flavor takes on a whole new diminsion when it’s browned and bubbly.

Join me for a sandwich, Whim? I have Alpine Lace this week, and a choice of mesquite smoked turkey or pastrami to go with.

I wish I could make a good white sauce, I love it over veggies.
