Tuesday Teaser photo verification

I’ll admit I wasn’t feeling too confident about getting a winner this week for our little puzzle. When I had to go out for a while I decided that I’d post a hint if there was still no winner when I got back. Maybe something like “You see it all the time, but never really look at it” or maybe “The white is important!” Sweet Jade has kept us from that indiginity by recognizing the photo snippet as the brushed aluminum ubiquitous to public facilities. She was pretty sure it was a toilet paper dispenser, but hedged her bet by also guessing that it might be a paper towel or napkin dispenser. Good eye, Jade! You nailed it the first time. You’ve won a linky-love post and will be in the monthly drawing for a $10.00 gift card. Your name is next up on the big list of folks that I owe linky-love to, so look for your first post soon. Congrats to Jade and mahalo to you all for playing. I’m on the hunt for something devilish to stump you with next week, so don’t forget to come back and play!

Tuesday Teaser for July 29, 2008

1. Write a comment giving your guess as to what the item is. Be as specific as you can. A table is too vague - a clamp on a card table leg is specific. Sometimes the brand will need to be specific, as when you identified the Enregizer Bunny and auto company logos. Guess as many times as you want, but put each answer in a separate comment, please!
2. First person to identify the item wins. If more than one person provides the correct answer, time and date stamp will determine who was first.
3. The author of this blog will be the sole judge as to what constitutes a correct answer. Sorry - no hints will be given. I will attempt to respond to your answers at least every few hours, but I am not continuously at the keyboard so please be patient.
4. The contest will end in forty-eight hours, whether or not a correct guess has been submitted.
5. Skeet’s Stuff is a do-follow blog, so you get some link value just for commenting.
What will you win?
1. The author of this blog will write a LINKY LOVE POST (review) about the winner’s blog (commercial sites ineligible.) The LLP will contain the url for your blog plus at least two deep links and will be posted here on Skeet’s Stuff, a PR4 PR2 PR0 (bah google!) Ha! PR3 blog. Skeet writes good reviews.
2. The weekly winners will be entered into a monthly drawing for a $10.00 gift card from Starbucks or Amazon or a ten dollar payment through PayPal so they can start saving for their Orlando vacations or a gallon of gas.
3. Drawing for the monthly prize will be held on or about August 1, 2008, and will include all weekly winners for the month. There are five Tuesdays in July, thus the maximum number of people who will be eligble is five.
Comments submitted with commercial links will be deleted. If you would like to market your product, service or website through skeet’s stuff I’ll be happy to discuss your needs and my prices. Please submit your request via email.

Self Portrait Sunday for July 27, 2008

Yeah, it’s technically already Monday, but the picture was taken on Sunday, so there! Yeah, I know I cut Zanla half out of the picture, but I still like it a lot, so there! Zanla is the rest of the family that I showed you a month ago when his sweetheart wife and beautiful son were passing through town. He’s on his way to join them in their new home on the East Coast, but had to stop and spend a little time with his Table of Contents/BookCrossing pals on the way.
I had a bad week, but I have some work booked for the upcoming week, so that will make me feel better about the world. I need to take the car in for routine service and to get the steering rack checked because something is feeling wobbly, so I hope that doesn’t end up costing more than I’ll earn for the work I have on the books. Does anyone know how much that kind of thing costs?
Cass had a good week but got a little older. You should go over to Midlife Musings and wish her a Happy Birthday, and maybe visit the other self portrait folks while you’re out and about. I’m thinking that’s what I’ll do.

Army Mom: New Jersey

These days it seems to be a popular stance to say “I support the troops but not the war.” I understand the sentiment, but find it refreshing to find someone who feels no need to qualify their support. That someone is Charlotte, who blogs over at Army Mom: New Jersey. I cannot imagine the stress of having a child in the military while a war is going on, but Charlotte has handled it well. She kept us all up-to-date while her daughter was serving in Iraq and we all celebrated the homecoming with her over on the IZEA message boards. She continues to support our troops and each week features a Wednesday Hero on her blog. There’s an old saying” “They also serve who only stand and wait.” The families of our service members make huge sacrifices even when there are no hostilities going on, but especially when their loved one are deployed to war zones. Hats off to Charlotte and all of you who serve by supporting your loved ones. You are as essential to our military as each active-duty member, so I salute you and thank you for your service!
In addition to her daughter, Charlotte has a hubby, two sons and five grandkids who also play starring roles in her life. Her blog is a tribute to her daughter’s service, but these days it’s mostly about her day-to-day life as a wife, mother and grandmother. It’s a real homey place, so go on over, kick your shoes off and sit awhile. You’ll enjoy the visit! Oh, and check out Charlotte’s Tips on her other blog, too. She’s a pretty handy gal and enjoys sharing her wisdom!

Tuesday Teaser photo verification

Sometimes - not very often, mind you - close is good enough. I’ve spent a little time online looking at various styles of tea pots and tea kettles. I found several examples of each where the little hinges on the levers that lift the lids are almost identical, so I’m going to accept “tea kettle” as our winning answer this week, in spite of the fact that it’s actually a tea pot. That means I’d really best be getting my butt in gear because Gina has now won three linky love posts and I’m so far behind that none of them have been done yet. Congratulations, Gina!
And now it can be told: the reason Meat Jun knew the answer last week is that I ran into her while I was on a photo hunt. I stopped at a Korean place where she happens to work. After I explained what I was doing, she had several good suggestions. The soda dispenser from last week and the tea pot from this week are both in the restaurant where she works. Oh, and I ordered a Meat Jun plate lunch, thus her screen name. In case you missed it, she helped me out again a few days ago. She’s turning out to be a pretty handy friend to have around!

Putting LESS money where my mouth is

If you’ve been reading my blog for very long you know that I have an obsession with dental products. I insist on just the right teeth whitening products, just the right toothbrush, just the right everything. I’m very, very particular about what I put in my mouth. I’ve spent a small fortune on products to help with my dry mouth syndrome and super-sensitive teeth. Can you imagine how I felt when I found out that there’s a place that offers all of my favorite products at warehouse prices, and that I’ve been paying way too much for my oral health care? I’m kicking myself right now because I’ve just found out that Smile Warehouse carries my favorite whitening toothpaste for almost exactly half of what I’ve been paying. My financial situation being a bit wobbly right now, I can’t believe that I never thought to shop for my dental care products online. What can I say? I’m of an earlier generation than most of you and I tend to think of going to the store instead of going to my computer when I need something. Lesson learned! I’ve been paying almost six bucks for my Oral-B Sensitive Advantage toothbrushes when I could have gotten them for $2.95 - half price! I’ve been using a dry-mouth toothpaste for months and it’s helped some, but I’ve only just found out that I can get GC Dry Mouth Gel from Smile Warehouse (for a very reasonable price) and re-moisten my mouth throughout the day. Well, duh! Your favorite dental products are probably there, too, because Smile Warehouse stocks all of the top products at discounted prices - way more than enough to offset shipping costs. On top of that, if you find your product somewhere else for a lower price, they’ll take 5% off of that price so you can still save with them. You have a mouth, right? You spend money keeping it healthy? Get on over to Smile Warehouse and do it for less!

School talk

I know that quite a few of my regular readers have children in school and that a few of your are in education. You’ll be doing your school or school district a favor when you recommend that they consider VoIP Services from one of the largest providers of telephoney services for schools in the country. Trillion will provide design, installation and day-to-day management of your secure broadband Wide Area Network (WAN) and Voice over IP (VoIP) services through Priority One E-Rate funding, allowing your school to free up more tax and tuition dollars for classroom needs. That seems like a sensible plan to me. Check out the link, then forward it to your purchasing officer. Your kids may even thank you for that some day!

Happy Birthday to Me!

No cake or anything else special planned, unless you choose to leave your gifts at the door, in which case I’ll make a big deal of opening them. Looking forward to phone calls from my son and my sister, both of whom will say that they got me something terrific and will mail it soon (it’s what we do.) I need to pay taxes and spend some time on the phone with HP figuring out why I can’t send faxes. If the sun stays out I need to do the oft-delayed flea treatment in the yard and give Lance a bath. That would make it a pretty special day for both of us, considering that he sleeps with me and I’ve had to use flea spray on him several times in the last few days and the aroma makes my nose tingle when I’m trying to sleep. Need to crop a photo so I’ll have it ready to post tonight for Tuesday Teasers. Hmmmm, that’s pretty much what I plan to do today. Faxes, taxes, fleas and tease. That’ll keep me busy!
You may now pay homage.

Tuesday Teaser gift card winner for June

I’ve been late with the drawing for the Tuesday Teaser monthly winner a few times in the past, but never this late. My apologies to the weekly winners, who, I’m sure, have been holding their breath waiting for the big news. Y’all will have noticed that I’ve been totally out of step with the world lately. I’m working on that, and on getting caught up on linky-love posts. Meanwhile, y’all remember Meat Jun, my friend who stopped in to comment on the puzzle last Tuesday? I went looking for her today & sure ’nuff, found her over at her place. She seem pleased to be asked to help me with the drawing. I gave her the magic mug and she vigorously mixed the name slips.

Congratulations to Jade, who has won a big ten bucks. She’s a college student, so I’m pretty sure she’ll find a way to spend it. Congrats, too, to my other winners from June, and mahalo to all of you who play Tuesday Teasers. I’ll see you again in a few days, when I’ll once again try to drive you a little crazy with a teeny, tiny piece of … something!
