Tuesday Teaser photo verification

I thought for sure that my recent activities would direct your guesses this week and that the puzzle would be solved quickly by a regular reader. Alas, our forty-eight hours has passed with no correct answer, so here ya go. It’s my handy-dandy new scraper/cutter, fresh from the package. It sure looked pretty a few days ago before it got spattered with paint and battered about a bit, don’t you think?
No winner this week, but I thank you all kindly for playing. I hope you’ll all return next Tuesday to take Tuesday Teaser out for a spin once again!

Tuesday Teaser for October 21, 2008

Can you identify the item depicted above? Take your best guess and post it in the comments below. If your guess wins, you’ll get a nifty prize. Here’s how it works:
1. Write a comment giving your guess as to what the item is. Be as specific as you can. For instance, “lamp” would be too general as an answer if you needed to identify a lava lamp. Sometimes the brand will need to be specific, as when you identified the Enregizer Bunny and auto company logos. Guess as many times as you want, but put each answer in a separate comment, please!
2. First person to identify the item wins. If more than one person provides the correct answer, time and date stamp will determine who was first.
3. The author of this blog will be the sole judge as to what constitutes a correct answer. Sorry - no hints will be given. I will attempt to respond to your answers at least every few hours, but I am not continuously at the keyboard so please be patient.
4. The contest will end in forty-eight hours, whether or not a correct guess has been submitted.
5. Skeet’s Stuff is a do-follow blog, so you get some link value just for commenting.
What will you win?
1. The author of this blog will write a LINKY LOVE POST (review) about the winner’s blog (commercial sites ineligible.) The LLP will contain the url for your blog plus at least two deep links and will be posted here on Skeet’s Stuff, a PR4 PR2 PR0 (bah google!) Ha! PR3 blog Hmmmm! PR2 again. Skeet writes good reviews.
2. The weekly winners will be entered into a monthly drawing for a $10.00 gift card from Starbucks or Amazon or a ten dollar payment through PayPal.
3. Drawing for the monthly prize will be held on or about November 1, 2008, and will include all weekly winners for the month. There are four Tuesdays in October, thus the maximum number of people who will be eligble is four.
Comments submitted with commercial links will be deleted. If you would like to market your product, service or website through skeet’s stuff I’ll be happy to discuss your needs and my prices. Please submit your request via email.

Shopping for my move
I’m trying to be frugal with my money as I prepare to move to Texas. I’ve talked myself out of plate lunches a few times lately and bypassed a cute outfit for my niece last time I went shopping. Money will be pretty tight until the house sells, so when I do need to buy something I’m making it a habit to look for a good sale before committing myself to a purchase. Buy.com is a great place to do that. They stock brand name electronics, fahionable apparel, baby goods (very tempting to me!) and all kinds of goodies for the home. I’m taking most of my furtniture with me when I go, but you can bet I’ll be checking Buy.com for anything I need to replace. They’ve come out the winner on every item I’ve done price comparisons on lately, and that’s just on their regular listings. Their sale items are priced even better.

There’s one item that’s a bit of a luxury for someone on a budget, but that I might break down and buy anyway. It’s the Nextar X4-T GPS In-Car Navigation System. If you’ve ever driven in the Dallas area you won’t have to ask why I’m considering this. Dallas has the most confusing street, highway and freeway system of any city I’ve ever been in. I almost have panic attacks just thinking about all the driving I’ll have to do on those nightmare roads as I search for a new home and set up my new business. The Nextar GPS seems like a reasonable investment to help keep me sane. When I enter a sough-after location into it, a voice prompt and map will help me find it. It plays MP3s too, but since I’ve never had an MP3 system I guess that’s just an added extra that I might not use. What I can use is the price. The Nextar GPS is a weekly deal and priced at just $109. That’s way cheaper than what I spent on the GPS system I bought my son a while back. I’m anticipating a lot of expenses connected to my move, so the savings will be greatly appreciated.

Self Portrait Sunday for October 19, 2008

When I started painting my office about a thousand years ago - or maybe it was just yesterday morning - I was wearing a shower cap and disposable gloves. I had a wet rag handy to wipe away any paint that got on me. That got old pretty fast. The shower cap was hot and it’s hard to paint with sweat dribbling from your scalp into your eyes. The gloves made my hands clammy and slippery. The rag - hmmmmm, I guess it’s around here somewhere, but I haven’t seen it in a while. It was a pain in the butt to have all of my electronics offline for two days, but I guess I’d better get used to that since I won’t have those toys for the three weeks or so that they will be in transit between Hawaii and Texas. I still have some more work to do in the office - more about that later in another post - but at least the painting is done and I can keep things operating until my final pack-out. I’m exhausted and icky-dirty, but feeling somewhat accomplished at the progress I’ve made.
Hm! I don’t see any recent posts over at Midlife Musings, so maybe Cass is on vacation. Guess I’m the lone soldier for Self Portrait Sunday today!

Taking Florida into account

Closing down my business and packing up my home are taking longer than I had hoped, but I’m making steady progress each day. I’m really excited about the prospect of living near family again and feel very blessed to have found several business opportunities in the area where I want to live. While my main goal this time is re-establishing family ties, having work that I love to do each day is also critical to my happiness. My last two moves were career-motivated and both brought good things into my life. Relocating for the sake of career advancement gave me so much more than just “a good job.” I’ve been places, seen things and been exposed to cultures I’d never have experienced if I had stayed where I was twenty years ago. Both moves also propelled me up the ladder of success. I’m convinced that my current move will do the same, and I’m thrilled to be returning to The South (always capitalized in my mind!) If you’re in accounting this might be a good time for you to consider a little Southern exposure, too, because Accounting Jobs in Florida are really hot right now. Positions are available for all skill levels and backgrounds, so there’s a place for you in Florida whether you’re a seasoned bookkeeper or a new CPA looking for your first career placement. Do you love keeping the books for the insurance industry? Perhaps you have a special affinity for striking a balance within an IT firm. Florida is the place for you! You should be doing what you love in a sultry, Southern paradise, where Gulf breezes freshen the soul and a stroll on the beach is a daily reality, not to mention the availablity of some of the best entertainment destinations in the country. Whether you’re already in Florida or in some place a little less perfect, don’t you owe it to yourself to seize this opportunity for advancement? Follow the link to find the career opportunity that will turn your dreams of success into reality!

Tuesday Teaser photo verification

My apologies for once again neglecting you all. I’ve been without power in my office all day. Right about the time the lights (and my cable modem) went off, Megan was posting the correct answer to the Tuesday Teaser once again. Congrats to Megan for knowing a hose-end sprayer when she sees one, and mahalo to all of you who played.

My buddy Paul came over this afternoon to see if he could get my office circuit breaker to flip back to “on” and stay there. I love Paul dearly, but he’s a hopeless alchoholic and was in bad shape when he arrived. He managed to pull the TV cable box down on his head while checkign the plug below the office work table. He was feeling no pain and his baseball cap kept him from getting a scalp cut, so that wasn’t a major problem (assuming that he box still works - haven’t checked it yet.) He argued with me when I brought him his shoes to wear while he was checking the breakers, but it’s a good thing he put them on anyway. He gave himself a serious jolt while testing circuits and I sent him home. Luckily, my friend Abe was able to come over this evening (just as House was coming on, darn it!) and he found that Paul had been testing the wrong circuit. It took him about a minute to have me up and running again. Ah, it’s good to have friends! I had called Randy (the real electrician) but he wasn’t going to be able to squeeze me in until (maybe) sometime late tomorrow. He would have charged me an arm and a leg just for walking in the door, so I’m super, extra grateful for both Paul and Abe tonight (okay - Abe a little more than Paul!)

Self Portrait Sunday for October12, 2008

Long day. I inspected a five-plex this morning, an old raggedy building just a small step above slum housing. Lots of termites everywhere, of course, because the current owner has never done much to keep the place up. The tenants were all nice folks though, and the realtor and I had plenty of time to sit and talk story while we waited for the last of them to get home. I finally dropped my desktop off with geek guy on the way home. He called me a little while ago. All of my old data - photos, documents, bookmarks, address books - is gone. Apparently the virus deleted existing data to make room for itself. The good news is that he’s wiping the computer completely clean. I’ll meet him tomorrow at Best Buy where we’ll be purchasing some memory upgrades that he’ll install. I’ll have a good computer with greater capacity when he’s done with it, and his fee won’t break the bank, so I feel okay about it all, I guess. The report for my inspection is still in progress. I’ve taken a brief break to catch up with my Self Portrait Sunday pals and grab a little quality time with Lance, but now it’s back to work.

Tuesday Teaser gift card winner for September

If my count is correct I’ve left the house three times in the last two weeks. My count could be wrong because fatigue makes my brain fuzzy, but I think I remember running out of boxes and bread three times. I’ve been doing a good job of eating up the supplies I have on hand in the pantry and freezer, so I’m not making my usual two-to-three-times-per-week shopping trips. I’ve been a bit addled, what with packing for my move and trying to get the house ready to sell, so I’ve forgotten to take the magic mug and my camera when I’ve gone out. I thought of it today during the garage sale.

My friend Paul has been helping me out lately and he partnered with me on the garage sale. He has better stuff than me - power tools and Vargas prints and other fun stuff - so he did pretty well today. His friend Sherma showed up to help us out, too, so I put her to work.

Ta dah! Congratulations to Scott, who won the Tuesday Teaser the first time he played and now has won the monthly drawing the first time he was eligible. Scott has won a ten dollar gift card from Amazon or Starbucks, or a ten dollar payment through PayPal if he prefers. Scott is a total geek, so he’ll probably take the money and use it for something useful like computer cables or exit signs instead of something fun like sexy shoes, but it’s his option, so who am I to judge?
Congrats to all of the September winners and mahalo again for everyone who played my little game. You’re all winners in my book! I’ll see you again next Tuesday!

Tuesday Teaser photo verification

I have three pair of vice grips in varying sizes. They’re the handiest tools to have around, and the most used in my house except for my standard pliers. I’m pretty sure most of you must have at least one around, so I was surprised that no one recognized them as the Tuesday Teaser this week. Are you kicking yourself right now for missing this one? I purposely allowed a bit of the spring clip to show even though I feared it would make the puzzle too easy. Our forty-eight hours is up and no one supplied the right answer, so there’s no winner this week. Check back next week to see if I can stump you again or if I’ll be the chump who doesn’t fool anyone! Mahalo to all of you who played and to all of the lurkers who visited but didn’t post (you know who you are!) Invite your friends and readers to play next time - the more the merrier!
