Tuesday Teaser photo verification

Ceiling fan

I started to install the new ceiling fan in the dining area a few days ago, then lost my nerve. I had the power off, so I wasn’t afraid of being electrocuted while doing the installation. I was afraid of installing it wrong and electrocuting myself or shorting out all the wiring in the house the first time I turned it on. Much too stressful for me, so I waited and let Paul install it yesterday. I have two more just like it - they were supposed to be for the three bedrooms in my home. There’s no wiring in the bedroom ceilings. When I got quotes for it I discovered that the house would need to be rewired before any new circuits are added and that the price would be quite hefty, so I decided to live without ceiling fans in the bedrooms. I’ll take the other two and the very large one that was originally intended for the dining room with me when I move. Hopefully my new home will have wiring in place for me to have ceiling fans in every room.

Congratulations to Megan, who once again beat the rest of you to the punch by being the first to solve the puzzle. She’s won a linky-love review of her blog - I’m so far behind I think I owe her three now. I WILL get caught up - just not sure when! Megan will also be entered into the monthly drawing for a ten dollar gift card (or cold, hard cash!)

Mahalo to all of you for playing Tuesday Teaser!

Didja, huh?

voting receipt

It’s so important. There are people in the world who would die for the opportunity to do what we’re doing today. There were people in this world died so that you and I could do it. Like you, I sometimes wonder if we are making a difference. Is my vote merely balancing out yours? Are we putting people in office who can and will make a real difference? Will what we do today have any impact at all? Sometimes I doubt it, but most days I know that to not vote would be the worst kind of obscenity. Whether or not we get the changes we seek, we must let our voices be heard. This is our chosen way of doing it.

Go vote! It’s a right. It’s a privilege. It’s a duty.

Tuesday Teaser for November 4, 2008

Can you identify the item depicted above? Take your best guess and post it in the comments below. If your guess wins, you’ll get a nifty prize. Here’s how it works:

1. Write a comment giving your guess as to what the item is. Be as specific as you can. For instance, “lighting” would be too general as an answer if you needed to identify a lava lamp. Sometimes the brand will need to be specific, as when you identified the Enregizer Bunny and auto company logos. Guess as many times as you want, but put each answer in a separate comment, please!
2. First person to identify the item wins. If more than one person provides the correct answer, time and date stamp will determine who was first.
3. The author of this blog will be the sole judge as to what constitutes a correct answer. Sorry - no hints will be given. I will attempt to respond to your answers at least every few hours, but I am not continuously at the keyboard so please be patient.
4. The contest will end in forty-eight hours, whether or not a correct guess has been submitted.
5. Skeet’s Stuff is a do-follow blog, so you get some link value just for commenting.

What will you win?

1. The author of this blog will write a LINKY LOVE POST (review) about the winner’s blog (commercial sites ineligible.) The LLP will contain the url for your blog plus at least two deep links and will be posted here on Skeet’s Stuff, a PR4 PR2 PR0 (bah google!) Ha! PR3 blog Hmmmm! PR2 again. Skeet writes good reviews. ;)

2. The weekly winners will be entered into a monthly drawing for a $10.00 gift card from Starbucks or Amazon or a ten dollar payment through PayPal.

3. Drawing for the monthly prize will be held on or about November 1, 2008, and will include all weekly winners for the month. There are four Tuesdays in October, thus the maximum number of people who will be eligble is four.

Comments submitted with commercial links will be deleted. If you would like to market your product, service or website through skeet’s stuff I’ll be happy to discuss your needs and my prices. Please submit your request via email.

Reuniting with family

Samsung camcorder

I’m really getting excited about the prospect of living near family again soon. Aunts and cousins that I talk to every few weeks will become a real-life part of my world again. I’ll be getting to know some of my relatives for the first time - my nephews wives and cousins spouses, their kids - most especially the kids who have been born since I moved away. I’ve been daydreaming a lot lately about the reunions we’ll have. I’m hoping to have an open house soon after I get settled in, so we can all have an opportunity to gather at one time. I’ll be carrying some local treats with me that I’ll share with my guests that day. Certainly some Kona coffee and macadamia nuts for the adults, but I haven’t decided yet what to get for my two great-nieces. I’ve already given the older one some Hawaii paper dolls and other little local toys, and I sent aloha-print baby clothes to the baby shower before Lily was born. I think I’d like to get both of them some aloha-print dresses to give them when we first meet. Whatever I decide on, you’ll undoubtedly see it here. I’ll be taking lots of pictures to share with you, as always. I’d like to get a camcorder before I move, too, so I can start showing you videos of my family and especially of my two nieces. I really like this Samsung High Definition Digital Camcorder that comes with all the right features for only $299 (after rebate) from Buy.com. I’ve mentioned them before so you’ve probably already checked them out and know about their great weekly deals and sale prices. The camcorder is less than half-price when you buy from them. At that price I can no longer excuse myslef from having one by saying that they’re too expensive. All of the electronics I’ve looked into at Buy.com are sweetly priced, as are their games and videos and everything else they carry. I don’t know yet what I’ll need for my new home, but if I need extra furniture or if I buy a place that doesn’t already have appliances to replace the ones I’m leaving, I know where to shop for them. You should check out Buy.com the next time you need to make a major purchase for your own home, as well as for all the little things we all need and want. You did bookmark them already, right? You will be going there first when you start Christmas shopping, too, I suppose? Yeah, I thought so. Just don’t get so hung up on shopping that you forget to come back and see me. I’m really looking forward to sharing some videoes of my nieces with you soon!

Self Portrait Sunday for November 2, 2008

Self Portrait Sunday for November 2, 2008

Lazy day today. I woke at about four, as I have most days lately (yesterday I was wide awake at 3 a.m.) I did my roots right after I finished my coffee, then settled in with a book I’ve been wandering through for the last week. I finished it about the time the sun came up, then picked up The Pilot’s Wife by Anita Shreve. I’ve had the book around for several years and thought I had read it already. Must have been confusing it with something else, though, because it was all new to me. The rest of the day was spent reading and napping. I can’t remember the last time I did that. I also can’t remember the last time I read a whole book in one day. I’ve fallen into the habit of reading in bits and pieces, but today I consumed The Pilot’s Wife from cover to cover. I finished it about an hour ago and did a little finish work on the kitchen cabinets to assuage my guilt over the wasted day. Tomorrow it will be back to the grind, but it was good to just relax for one day.

Check out Self Portrait Sunday over at Midlife Musings to see how some of my pals spent their day today. I’m guessing most of them were a bit more productive than I was.
