Backyard visitor

Moccasin

Just before sunset last night my cousin looked out the kitchen window and noticed that three of the cats were sitting in a circle staring at something just outside the fenced back yard. Three of the dogs were just inside the fence, focusing their gazes on the same area. We went out to investigate and found the fellow above, hissing and trying to strike at the cats.

Dead moccasin

Next door neighbor Tommy has a new handgun he’s been wanting to try out. It did the job. I may never walk outside again, at least until I get a good sturdy pair of snake boots!

  1. Eeeep! Welcome back to Texas, I guess! Glad the kitties didn’t get hurt by it!

  2. One of the cats kept taking swipes at it, Sarafina, and the snake tried to strike back each time but the kitty was too fast for him. Wonder how long it will take me to get used to these nasty, scaley guys?

  3. Ugh.

  4. Big UGH! *I*HATE*SNAKES!*

  5. Eeew. Good boots should definitely be a priority item! :s

  6. OMG I HATE SNAKES !!! My mom had one in her front yard yesterday that happened to be near where I was walking ICK!!! We had no metal shovel so she hurt it a bit to let it know this was no place to live. EW !!! Good thing you got it before it got your or your pets

  7. Poor Lance is missing his walks in the woods, H8, but now that the weather’s warmed up there’s too big a chance of more snakes crossing our path. Yep, gonna buy me some good sturdy boots that go waaaaay up to there!

  8. I’m big and bad and brave, Suni - until it comes to snakes. They scare me silly!

  9. I’m so glad that you explained that the snake was dead, phew!

  10. That’s one visitor I won’t like to have in my backyard. Fortunately not make snakes in the UK.
