Tuesday Teaser photo verification
Y’all were all over and under and around the correct answer this week, but never actully on it. You knew you were seeing fabric and some bracing or framework, so you were just an intuitive step away from seeing an umbrella! Don’t despair, though - I’m usually much easier to figure out. Come back next Tuesday when I’ll try to stump you with a new Tuesday Teaser and you’ll probably make me feel rather foolish by shutting me down as soon as I post the picture. Mahalo to you all for playing. A special thanks to all the new players and to those of you who have been spreading the word so new folks could find me!

Tuesday Teaser for July 1, 2008
Can you identify the item depicted above? Take your best guess and post it in the comments below. If your guess wins, you’ll get a nifty prize. Here’s how it works:

Self Portrait Sunday for June 29, 2008
Two of my favorite people in the whole world have been visiting this week. Allysther and the boy are on the move again, this time from Korea to the East Coast. Hubby/Dad Zanla will follow in a few weeks to begin his new military assignment. They have to stop and visit home in Hawaii each time they travel, of course. Allysther, the boy and I had lunch on Friday, then went shopping for office supplies. What? Isn’t that what you do when you have a reunion with friends? We got together again yesterday for lunch with the Table of Contents at the same restaurant (Allysther’s favorite.) I thought I had taken at least one picture of all three of us, but somehow missed that opportunity, to here’s me and the boy, too. Yeah, I don’t look so hot, but he’s cute enough to make up for it, don’t you think? He was more than willing to stay here with me but Mom and Dad seem to need him around so, alas, the skeet house remains childless.
Cass, I’m thinking you could spice up Self Portrait Sundays by having a different theme each week. Like say, everyone in pajamas one week, work clothes the next, cooking in the kitchen, fooling with their hair - that kind of stuff. Oh, maybe each of us in sexy costumes for Halloween! Just a suggestion, mind you. It’s works well the way it is, but a theme could be fun, too. Whaddaya think? I think I need to get over to Midlife Musings to see who else took a self portrait today.

Tuesday Teaser photo verification
We have another first-time winner this week folks. I stumped some of you, but Gina knew it was the latch on the door of a truck or van. She’s won a linky love post and will be entered in the drawing for a gift card at the end of June. Congratulations Gina!

Self Portrait Sunday for June 22, 2008
Okay, it’s won’t be Sunday by the time this is posted because right now it’s four minutes ’til midnight. But here I am, right before I went to the store this afternoon. Nothing special going on today. I was just feeling lazy and didn’t get online. I guess we all have days like that, hmm? Either that or it’s just me getting old. It’s a shame I didn’t follow up on the life insurance quotes I got when I was younger. Running out of years, you know? The kid is pretty self-sufficient, though, so I suppose he’ll do fine even if old Mom doesn’t leave him a bundle.

Tuesday Teaser photo verification
I’ve been discovering the joys of win32/glenwiry.p virus since last night. As you can see from the commentary (if you go to the link,) there’s a lot of confusion about what it can and can’t do. In my case what it can do is keep Windows from recognizing installed software, open and close various programs spontaneously and cause all kinds of other havoc. I apparently got it from an infected website, thought who knows which one. There’s no indication that it spreads by email, but if you’re in my hawaii.rr.com mailbox, run your antivirus just to be sure.
Now that I’m back online - we have a Tuesday Teaser winner. Once again Jennifer was the first to solve the puzzle. Um, Jennifer - I was almost caught up with linky love for you. I only owed you two more posts, but didn’t want to do them too close together. Hmmmmm -maybe I should just start doing weekly updates on your blogs since you win so often. Or maybe you could create a whole stable of new blogs so I’ll plenty to choose from!

Self Portrait Sunday for June 15, 2008
“I was born in Corsicana, Texas, the home of Wolf Brand Chili, The Collins Street Bakery and me. Nothing much else ever came out of there.” That’s how I’ve been known to introduce myself when I’m feeling silly. Not true, of coures. It’s true that I was born there, but it’s a pretty interesting little town and has a few things going for it besides the two outstanding features mentioned above. We moved away when I was five, so I have more history in other places, but I’ve visited from time to time over the years. I got the shirt on either my last trip there or the one before that - I think the earlier visit. That means my Derrick Days shirt is probably between fifteen and twenty years old. The fabric is wearing a little thin and it’s got some stains and a few bleach spots on it. I don’t wear it anymore except around the house when I’m having a cleaning and chores day like today. It might be years before I ever make it back to Corsicana, so I thought I’d commemorate the shirt before it falls apart.
I need to do another progress report on my decluttering, but I think I’ll do that another day. I’ve been steadily plodding on, so there are improvements every day. Today it was little stuff. I was going to finish emptying out the front shed and maybe go shopping for HDMI cables, but the rain is coming down in buckets so I’ll keep working inside until it’s time to cook my dinner instead.

Tuesday Teaser photo verification
Remember a few months back when several of my blogging buddies won a stand mixer and at least one of them had a contest to give one away? What you see above is my reason for hoping so fervently that I would win one for myself. My trusty old Betty G hand mixer has been with me for about thirty years. It’s not fancy, but it’s reliable. How many birthday cakes has it helped me make over the years? How many Thanksgiving dinners has it helped me prepare? These days we buy a counter-top appliance and expect it to last two or three years before a replacement is needed. My poor old coffee maker will be on the junk heap soon, and it’s about three years old. I’m adding daily to the mountains of stuff that I’m stockpiling for a grage sale, but I generally hang onto things that work, so I guess old Betty G will remain with me for a while. Oh, I’d replace her without a backward glance if a multi-function, all-the-bells-and-whistles stand mixer were to come my way, but barring that I can’t see any reason to get rid of her. She’s got the franchise on reliability. Gah! I think I’ve turned into my parents, but I have to say it: they just don’t make ‘em like they used to!
